The position of contemporary ceramics
|The Cutting Edge of Ceramics: The Current Status of the Mino International Ceramics Exhibition Award Winners
Part 1/Part 2

In support of the 13th International Ceramics Competition Mino, Tajimi City Cultural Atelier gallery VOICE will be hosting "The Cutting Edge of Ceramics: The Current State of Award Winners of the International Ceramics Competition Mino." As diverse forms of expression expand across various fields of contemporary art, the number of unconventional, genre-defying works in ceramics is on the rise. Since its opening, our gallery has been planning exhibitions that explore the essence of creating with clay and expressing oneself through pottery. This two-part exhibition will introduce the current state of 12 past award winners of the International Ceramics Competition Mino who continue to work sincerely with clay. We hope you will take a look at the current state of these 12 artists, who continue to carry on the history of ceramics while exploring uncharted territory with a burst of creativity.

Past Exhibitions: The Present of Ceramics: The Emerging Form of Clay and Soul

Cross talk
| The current state of pottery: The rise of earth and soul

Since its opening in 2006, Tajimi City Cultural Atelier gallery VOICE has been showcasing artists who are fascinated by and boldly take on the challenges of creating forms that can only be achieved through pottery, using earth and fire. Currently, artistic expression seems to be tending to diffuse due to the emergence of new media and methods, the fusion of different genres, and market trends. In this context, we planned this exhibition with the hope of reexamining the essence of the work of artists who are committed to creating forms that can only be achieved through earth and fire. This is because we believe that this is what can be called the essence of ceramics, the art that stirs the soul. This exhibition features works by five artists who have consistently pursued this type of production.

|GyuColle Plus+ The Current State of Ceramics

Kyoei Electric Furnace Manufacturing Co., Ltd., the headquarters of gallery VOICE, was founded on Honmachi Oribe Street by Takeshi Ushida, the father of the current president, Takuzo Ushida. The current president has a fondness for Honmachi Oribe Street, where the company was founded and where he was born and raised, and has been actively involved with the former third-sector Hanayagi Corporation and the Tajimi City Tourism Association.
Driven by a desire to revitalize the town, the company, as a designated administrator, began managing and operating the Tajimi City Cultural Workshop "gallery VOICE" on the third floor of the Touto Sozoukan in 2006. While exploring ways to widely introduce Mino pottery culture through special exhibitions and other events, and to preserve it for future generations, the company has been running the "Ushida Collection" project since 2007.

This exhibition features works from the Ushida Collection by nine artists who use clay, as well as three artists whose works have been exhibited in previous exhibitions at the gallery.
